Select Your State

Choose your state from the directory or use the search bar. Each state has a dedicated calculator that automatically applies your state's income tax rate.

Enter Your Pay Details

Input your gross pay per period and select your pay frequency — weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly. Then choose your filing status.

Add Pre-Tax Deductions

Enter any 401(k) contributions or health insurance premiums. These reduce your taxable income, which lowers your federal and state tax withholding.

See Your Results Instantly

Your estimated take-home pay updates in real time — no button to click. You'll see a full breakdown of federal tax, FICA, state tax, and net pay per paycheck and annually.

Override Tax Rates (Optional)

Use the Advanced panel to override any default 2026 tax rate — Social Security, Medicare, state rate, or standard deduction — if your situation differs from the defaults.

Frequently Asked Questions (US Pay check Calculator)

1. How is federal income tax calculated on my paycheck?

Federal income tax is withheld using the IRS Publication 15-T 2026 Percentage Method. Your gross pay is annualized, the standard deduction is subtracted, and the result is taxed across marginal brackets ranging from 10% to 37%.

Nine states have no state income tax in 2026:
• Alaska
• Florida
• Nevada
• New Hampshire
• South Dakota
• Tennessee
• Texas
• Washington
• Wyoming
If you select any of these states, your state tax will show as $0.

Gross pay is your earnings before any deductions. Take-home pay — also called net pay — is what you actually receive after:
• Federal tax
• State tax
• Social Security
• Medicare
• Any pre-tax deductions

Pre-tax deductions reduce your taxable income before federal and most state taxes are calculated. For example, contributing $200 per paycheck to a 401(k) reduces your income subject to federal tax by $200, which lowers your overall tax bill.

This calculator provides a close estimate based on 2026 IRS withholding tables and Tax Foundation state rates. It uses flat-rate approximations for state taxes — states with progressive brackets may vary slightly for higher earners.
